Plaid Phase Computing is a software technology organization building instruments for electronic music. Founded by Peter Brown, known musically as Orion, who has been making music since 1995 and writing software since 2019.

Every sound is calculated in real time using mathematical models: acoustic physics, waveform geometry, and frequency ratios. No streaming. No cloud. No artificial intelligence. Raw computation running at full speed on your device, the way a hardware synthesizer does.

Every kick drum, bassline, and harmonic tone is calculated in real time from sine waves, frequency ratios, and acoustic waveform geometry. The engine produces sound the way physics does: through mathematics, not recordings or neural networks.

Phase 6 plays notes that exist outside the standard piano keyboard. Tuning systems drawn from ancient Arabic music, Indonesian gamelan, Indian classical traditions, and experimental mathematics give it sounds no conventional instrument can produce.

Built-In Sidechain

Every Channel. Independent.

Each of the 8 instrument channels carries its own sidechain bus. You can pump any channel against the kick, hat, or any other trigger in the pattern. The compression is mathematical, with no plugins, no external routing, and no extra steps. Set the depth and release directly in the channel strip and the ducking happens in real time as the pattern plays.

Per-Channel Overdrive

Saturation On Every Voice.

Every channel has its own overdrive and distortion stage built directly into the synthesis path. Drive the kick into a saturated growl, push the bass into harmonic clipping, or add grit to a pad without affecting anything else. The distortion is computed mathematically through waveform folding and soft-clip shaping, not digital plugin emulation.

Tap into any instrument's Sounds Panel and you get a full synthesis editor for that model. Adjust the attack transient, sustain body, decay tail, filter cutoff, resonance, pitch envelope, and harmonic character. All parameters update in real time as the pattern runs, so you hear every change immediately without stopping playback.
